If you weren’t able to join us, but are interested in listening in on our discussions we have video of our activities below.  Gaylaird Christopher, A4E, introduces our vision, purpose and President Obama’s call to “…transform our schools…”.

Speaker Dr. Arthur Peterson: A Call To Remembrance
Dr. Peterson addresses our intent to confront forthcoming education challenges; reflecting on education’s place in history and analyzing where we have succeeded, failed and why re-orientations are necessary.

Recentering Our Efforts, What does History Teach Us?
Jonathon Brier, A4E, leads a dialog to consider the evolving relationship between teacher, student and learning space.  One small group shares their internal discussion & then entire group shares their views with one another.

    

Speaker Dr. Keith Larick: What Will the Future Bring?
Dr. Larick predicts what’s in store for educators and designers as we anticipate the needs of the 21st century student. “What is possible, probable and preferable for life in 2020?

What About the Jetsons?
Theresa Bidner, A4E, leads a discussion focusing on the future of education and the elements that will bring about tranformative changes to classrooms and schools.  Our illustrious student participants share their views about this subject and then each table shares their findings.

   

Speaker Stephanie Pace-Marshall: The Power to Transform
Ms. Pace-Marshall asks and answers the question “What would it take to create a generative, life-affirming system of schooling that liberates the goodness and genius of all children, and ignites the creative power of the human spirit for the world?”

If High School Were Like Kindergarten
Dennis Roney, A4E, leads a discussion on the importance of Social Skills, Wonder & Play as taught in kindergarten.  One small group shares their internal discussion.

Future Learning Environments
Sasha Monge, A4E, using a relationships excercise from Ms. Pace-Marshall’s book leads the symposium to transform the teacher/student/classroom relationship. 

Breaking Down the Barriers
A Panel Discussion with Sherry Eagle, Anne Taylor, George Copa and Jenner LaFave to start Day 2 off with direction and purpose.

 

Speaker Elliot Washor: Innovating from the Edge to the Middle
Mr. Washor explores the work of No Child Left Behind and similar school reform measures that assume student success is achieved by teaching certain standards exclusively.

Next Generation Learning
Gaylaird Christopher, A4E, leads a discussion to consider what can be learned from the Apple Store as a learning environment.  Each small group then used their models, made from the previous day, to help explain their findings.

Lunch Presentation: Revolution Foods
Erin Lewellen introduces Revolution Foods, a group of former educators, who provide healthy meals and nutrition education to San Francisco Bay area schools.

Speaker Gaylaird Christopher:Designs that Make a Difference
Mr. Christopher maintains that a supportive and inspiring learning environment assists a good teacher to become a great teacher.

Environments That Teach
Dennis Roney, A4E, leads the dreamTeam Symposium to develop a ” Pledge < P> to Act?.  This will be published shortly.<>

A4E Blog gets updated!
We are pleased to bring our Blog to the fore, and will make a concerted effort to make these monthly updates truly monthly.

Dream Team Symposium
We are so excited to host our inaugural Dream Team Symposium and look forward to uploading video, images and documentation of the event.  Keep visiting the A4E blog for more info!

Projects Progress
As usual we have a variety of projects in various stages:  Colusa County Education Village and Rialto Science Labs are both in DSA review; the NuView Library & Administration is in construction and coming along nicely; and the Lewis Center for Movement is at the exciting brainstorming stage.
